A nationally recognized white-collar defense lawyer with experience practicing in courts throughout the United States, Ilene Jaroslaw counsels and defends individuals and corporations in white-collar investigations and prosecutions. She calls on more than 30 years of expertise in internal and government investigations, white-collar criminal law, federal commercial litigation, asset forfeiture, and constitutional law to help her clients navigate the unfamiliar world of federal law enforcement.
Ilene has led external and internal investigations of financial institutions and universities involving fraud, misfeasance, money laundering, and sexual misconduct, and she has defended c-suite executives in U.S. Department of Justice, SEC, and New York state investigations and prosecutions.
Known as the “AUSA whisperer,” Ilene served for more than 20 years as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of New York, where she held several leadership positions, including chief of the General Crimes Section, where she trained more than 200 federal prosecutors. She was the district’s international coordinator, hosting international delegations, facilitating MLAT requests, and supervising incoming and outgoing extradition requests. Ilene prosecuted cases involving securities fraud, tax fraud, insider trading, money laundering, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, healthcare fraud, narcotics trafficking, and murder in aid of racketeering. She was lead counsel in 30 federal jury trials, and she argued as many appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals. As a federal prosecutor, Ilene conducted dozens of financial investigations in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Internal Revenue Service, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of the Treasury, and FinCEN.
Earlier in her career, Ilene litigated business disputes at Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison LLP, and she defended the civil rights of women, physicians, and medical offices at the Center for Reproductive Rights.
